Number Type

The Number Type defines whether a sender is classified as Domestic or International based on the country of the brand and the country of the end users they are sending messages to. This helps apply the right regulatory policies, routing, billing, and compliance rules for messaging.

Domestic

What it means: A sender is marked as "Domestic" when the brand is domestic to the country of the recipients they are messaging. In simple terms, both the brand and its customers belong to the same country.

When to use:

  • The brand is registered in the same country as the customers

  • Messages are intended for users within that same country

  • Communication is local/national

Example:

  • Brand A is based in India

  • Customers are also in India - Brand A should register as a Domestic sender.

International

What it means: A sender is marked as "International" when the brand is not domestic to the destination country where messages are being delivered. This applies when an international brand sends messages to users in another country.

When to use:

  • The brand is registered in a different country from the recipients

  • Messages are being sent cross-border

  • The business operates globally and serves customers outside its home country

Example:

  • Brand B is based in Nigeria

  • Customers are in India - Brand B should register as an ILD sender.
